Abstract

Psychological problems that are often experienced by women prisoner are meaninglessness characterized by feelings of emptiness, boredom and hopelessness. Women prisoner found herself useless. This is one sign of low self esteem that affects the resilience of women prisoner while in prison. The aim of this study was to know the relationship betwen self esteem and resilience of prisoners  in Women Correctional Institution Class IIB Kupang. This study was a quantitative study with correlational design and cross sectional approach. There were 47 prisoner women who were selected as respondents by using the total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaire analysis by chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of women prisoner have high self esteem and high resilience. Women prisoner who have high self esteem also have high resilience. There was a relationship betwen self esteem and resilience of prisoners  in Women Correctional Institution Class IIB Kupang(p value = 0,000), therefore it is recommended that prisoners have a feeling of being capable, meaningful and valuable in order to be tough and persistent in fancing life changes, so that they are able to survive during adversity.
