THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SUPERVISOR LEADERSHIP STYLE AND NURSES' ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT

Abstract

Background: A Hospital is an organization engaged in health services. Several main resources must be owned by an organization to support success in achieving its goals, one of which is a nurse who acts as a leader or head nurse. An organization or hospital needs a leader who can lead the organization to maintain quality. In addition, the success of a hospital in achieving its goals is also determined by the commitment of nurses. These two variables are interesting to study because they are important factors for the success of a hospital.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the leadership style of the head nurse and the organizational commitment of nurses

Methods: This study is a non-experimental study with a cross-sectional study design. The population consisted of 209 nursing staff, with 151 respondents taken using stratified random sampling, and data analysis was done using chi-square.

Result: The results of the study showed that the dominant leadership style applied by the head nurse was a supportive leadership style and the results also showed that there was a very strong relationship between supportive leadership style and organizational commitment of nurses, P value of 0.0001 (p <0.05) with a positive direction which means that the stronger the supportive leadership style, the greater the impact on increasing organizational commitment of nurses

Implication: A close relationship between leaders and team members can result in positive support for team members, thereby increasing team members' sense of comfort and self-confidence and encouraging them to remain committed and highly dedicated to the organization.
