Abstract

Background: Among all health workers who in the hospital, nurses are at risk of experiencing work stress as nurse are having heavy workloads and big responsibilities in providing nursing care to patients for 24 hours. Work stress is an individual’s inability to fulfil his/her job demands so that it may affect his/her job satisfaction. This study aims to obtain a general description of the effects of work stress on job satisfaction of nurses in the inpatient wards of Bandung Adventist Hospital.


Methode: The method used in this research is a descriptive method. The population used in this study were 169 nurses in the inpatient wards. The sampling technique uses a total sampling technique. The data collected using a work stress and job satisfaction questionnaire, with the google form. The data obtained was analysed using simple linear regression analysis with the T test, to test the effect of work stress and job satisfaction.


Results: The results showed that nurses experienced work stress in the moderate   category 66.9% and job satisfaction was in the moderate category 76.3% and there was significant and negative influence of work stress towards job satisfaction of nurses in the inpatient wards of the Bandung Adventist Hospital with a value of 11.6% with p (0.000) < p-value, which means that an increase in work stress has led to a decrease in job satisfaction of nurses who worked in the inpatient wards of the Bandung Adventist Hospital.


Conclusion: There is an effect of work stress on job satisfaction of nurses in the inpatient ward of the Bandung Adventist Hospital. Therefore, the hospital must pay more attention to what causes stress for nurse and can provide training to reduce work stress.
