Background: Old age is a period of life marked by changes or decreases in bodily functions, the beginning of which is different for each individual. The mouth is a part of the body that cannot be separated, because oral health will affect general health, that is, causing intense pain and suffering that changes what people eat, talk and their quality of life and well-being.
Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of oral hygiene in the elderly on the quality of life at Panti Pangesti Lawang
Methods: The population in this study were all elderly. The sample in this study consisted of 51 respondents who were taken using a total sampling technique at the time of the study in February 2021 using the Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHIS) measurement tool and Older People's Quality of Life Questionnaire. The analytical method used is the Spearman's rho test.
Results,: The results of the study were the Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.013, this value is smaller than p <0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of oral hygiene on the quality of life of the elderly at Panti Pangesti Lawang
Conclusion : The results of this study can be used as a reference in improving the quality of life of the elderly, especially by improving the quality of oral hygiene for the elderly.
